Department of Mathematics

The Department is very active in research specializing in Functional Analysis, General Relativity and Astrophysics and Tribology. The department has a strong programme of collaborative research with mathematicians in India and abroad. The department has been recognized as a SAP Department by the UGC. So far 60+ students of the department have cleared NET-JRF/SLET/GATE/NBHM. The services of these alumni having the “first-hand experience” of solving problems will also be available to the participants.
The Workshop will consist of Problem Sessions based on a wide range list of problems and exercises to be provided to the participants so that they can continue working on them, enhancing their capacity of problem solving. These sessions will be conducted by a group of selected mathematicians.
In the process, once an initial link has been established through this programme, we intend to continuously interact with them through e-mail and a yahoogroup. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ugcnetmath/

PREAMBLE

This is the Seventh Workshop on An Art of Problem Solving in Higher Mathematics for students motivated for Higher Studies in  Mathematics. The demand of time is forcing more students to opt for Mathematics as a career and the demand of Mathematics, in turn, is the skill of Problem Solving. Thus carving a career in Mathematics requires  more emphasis to be given to Problem Solving, Igniting Creativity and Refreshing basic know-how of General Science. To address this issue, DOMSPU is  organizing a Seven-Day Workshop, under the UGC-SAP-DRS-II Programme of the department  during 16–22 January 2014. The programme is aimed at providing concrete training in the aspects mentioned above to the selected Postgraduate students in  Mathematics in India. Many of the participants of the workshops I to VI who have cleared the NET will be available.
